The key to sustained success for any manager is to create a success culture – one which can deliver consistent high performance; doing good, making money and having fun. (Or, to put it another way, satisfying customers, being profitable and motivating and retaining excellent people). Not all cultures are like this of course. Fear cultures and blame cultures are common. Mediocrity/excuse cultures emerge where there is no sustained focus on performance, or where poor performance is not constructively challenged. What all these cultures have in common is that they suck teams and business into a downward spiral of frustration, stagnation and underachievement rather than sustained growth and improvement.

We can help you create a success culture in your business. A culture where people have the right information, skills and motivation to perform at the highest level and to continuously learn, develop and improve.
Our model (below) sets out the basic systems and which underpin the culture and we can help you implement it and get your people on board.

Success culture processes

Six key processes underpin the success culture effective people- management:

  1. Business Direction and Goals: Clarifying the broad aims of the business (or team) and setting clear
    and measurable goals
  2. Communicating: Three elements are looked at:
    • Content: Focus should be on the goals and targets
    • Proactivity: We should be communicating ahead of events to prevent problems and to create opportunities, rather than be reacting to problems
    • Style: Keeping communication forward looking and positive, rather than backward looking and blame-oriented.
  3. Management of individual performance: Making sure everyone is clear about their own performance targets and standards, gets feedback on their performance and has their training needs identified.
  4. Learning and development: Learning from successes and setbacks, and identify and plugging gaps in Identifying where training and development can help achieve goals, and selecting the most effective methods.
  5. Introducing new people: Getting new people fitting in, and up to speed quickly.
  6. Management Development: Ensuring that people who are managing others are clear about their responsibilities and have the skills and style to manage people effectively.

How we can help

Future Positive has a long and successful track record of helping growing, ambitious businesses to a success culture. We help to put in place practical and effective management systems, and we work with managers and teams to develop the understanding and buy in required to establish and maintain the culture. Our ‘Creating a Success Culture’ programme provides the framework for creating the culture, the catalyst to get things moving and the support required to push through to successful implementation.

The programme begins with an overview and discussion about what level of success the team feels it would like to achieve. Each of the key themes is explored in turn, with each session ending with actions which are reviewed at the subsequent session. This allows change to take place at a sustainable pace, and builds momentum as things progress, often achieving significant and sustained breakthroughs.
