The bright side
The Hogan Personality Inventory (HPI) is
a personality measure designed specifically to predict occupational
success in the normal population. Based on the structure of
the Five Factor Model, the HPI measures the “bright
side” characteristics of interpersonal behaviour revealed
in workplace social interaction.
An impressive volume of predictive validity
data is presented in the HPI manual reflecting a wide spectrum

- Agreeability: warmth, charm, and the
ability to maintain relationships
- Prudence: responsibility, self-control
and conscientiousness
- Intellectance: imagination, curiosity,
and creative potential
- Scholarship: interest in education
and learning for its own sake, and the desire to keep up
to date

- Service orientation: being attentive,
pleasant and courteous to clients and customers
- Reliability: integrity, responsibility,
and organisational citizenship
- The ability to handle stress, with
low scores associated with absenteeism and stress proneness
- Clerical potential: the ability to
follow directions, pay attention to detail, and communicate
clearly
- Sales potential: energy, social skill,
the ability to solve problems for clients
- Managerial potential: Leadership ability,
planning and decision-making skills
